There’s something special about the little sounds of backyard life and today, it was my white quail’s turn to shine. I caught a quick clip of him proudly crowing, and it never fails to bring a smile to my face. You can watch the short video below and hear that quirky, distinctive sound for yourself!

I named him Whitey – simple and fitting, since he’s a beautiful white quail. And let me tell you, Whitey thinks he’s the king of the coop. He struts around like he owns the place and loves to boss the other quail around. It’s hilarious watching his tiny self act so bold! During the video, I had to put him in a separate run by himself to give the other a quail a break from him.
Why I Love Raising Quail:
- They’re quiet (most of the time!) and perfect for backyard setups.
- Quail provide fresh eggs daily with minimal space.
- Their personalities are fun to watch and connect with.
- Crowing is one of their unique ways to communicate, and it gives character to your flock.
Raising quail has been such a rewarding part of my urban homestead. If you’ve ever thought about adding quail to your backyard setup, I highly recommend it. They’re low-maintenance, productive, and full of funny days.
Come meet Whitey in the video, and let me know over in the YouTube video comments if your quail have funny personalities too.
