About

My name is Shelly, and I’m the heart behind this small but mighty backyard garden turned urban homestead. Nestled on less than 1/3 of an acre, my garden and homestead is proof that you don’t need a lot of space to grow a lot of good things.

What started as a simple backyard project has grown into a small homestead where I raise quail, grow a mix of vegetables, herbs, and beneficial plants, and preserve food the old-fashioned way with care, love, and a little dirt under my nails.

A Little About My Garden Life

Here at ShellyBird Garden, you’ll find raised beds overflowing with seasonal veggies, pots filled with fragrant mints and calming herbs, and quail calling from their cozy coops in the yard. I aim to supplement most of my meals with food grown right here, and I often purchase fresh produce from local sources to can, dehydrate, or freeze for later. Preserving food is a big part of how I stretch the harvest all year long.
