A Colorful Tomato Harvest

There’s something deeply satisfying about bringing in a basket full of tomatoes fresh from the garden. Each tomato with its own shape, shade, and story. This week’s harvest from the backyard included a beautiful mix of various tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, striped Tigerella beauties, and quite a few green tomatoes that are still making their way toward full ripeness.

I picked a variety of tomatoes at different stages, and that’s completely intentional. Some of the green tomatoes were harvested early either to encourage the plant to keep producing or to get ahead of pests and critters. Many of these will finish ripening indoors, and I’ve had great success with that method over the seasons. A few are even starting to “blush” right in the basket!

The cherry tomatoes were the earliest to turn ripe, bursting with flavor and perfect for tossing into a salad or enjoying straight off the vine. The Tigerella tomatoes are always a favorite. Those red and orange striped skins are too pretty not to admire, and they’re delicious sliced with a pinch of salt.

All of these were gathered using my a couple of my go to garden tools, which I highly recommend for any home gardener:

If you’re curious about why and how I pick green tomatoes to ripen indoors, I shared more about that in a video a while back. You can watch it below over at my ShellyBird Garden YouTube Channel:
